MS MINUTE #4: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) almost always strikes - TopicsExpress

MS MINUTE #4: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) almost always strikes between the ages of 20 and 50 and affects women twice as often as men. MS is not an inherited disease, however, you are at higher risk if you have a parent or sibling with MS. MS affects about 400,000 people in the U.S. and about 2.3 million people worldwide. It is known to be MUCH more prevalent in COLDER climates (particularly Scandinavian countries) and almost non-existent near the equator. I’ve been told (but haven’t confirmed this fact) that the county I live in and the two counties that border it have the highest number of cases of MS per capita than any other county in the U.S.?! Duluth, MN, also has a very high number of cases per capita. There are theories that this may have something to do with the lack of Vitamin D or possibly the diet of that area.
