MUCHEA LIVESTOCK CENTRE CATTLE SALE 1 JULY 2013 Numbers decreased slightly with pastoral supply limited by unseasonal heavy rain in northern regions. Quality improved with larger supplies of trade weight and feeder cattle as well as solid supplies of cows. Prices were generally cheaper with the exception of cows and better quality feeder cattle. Yearling steers to feeders and restockers made between 140c and 192c/kg for light weights. Better muscled drafts sold from 180c to 192c, to be 10c cheaper with D muscled drafts averaging 168c/kg. Medium and heavy weights made from 145c to 190c/kg, to be firm. Yearling heifers also trended cheaper with feeder and restocker drafts from 115c to 186c/kg for the majority. Heavy and medium lines to feeders made from 125c to 186c with best C muscled lines from 145c to 186c/kg to be slightly dearer. Trade steers slipped in price with more quality lines available. All trade steer sales were medium and heavy weights with prices back by up to 20 c/kg. Sales were from 146c to 231c/kg with grain assisted drafts averaging close to 200c/kg. Trade heifer prices were between 149c to 201c with better heavy weights averaging 186c, back 19c/kg. Pastoral yearling steers made 110c to 162c with pastoral heifers mostly from 105c to 148c/kg. Grown steers were of plain quality. Pastoral sales sold from 110c to 138c with local 500kg to 600kg export steers from 135c to 156c to average 147c/kg. Most grown heifers were of pastoral origin selling from 100c to 155c with local drafts from 100c to 167c/kg, back slightly. Cow prices trended firmer with quality improving on last weeks sale. Heavy cows sold from 115c to 139c/kg. Medium cows made from 105c to 138c to average 130c/kg for prime drafts. Light conditioned and light weight cows sold from 85c to 125c, up by 4c/kg. Bull prices remained firm with medium heavy drafts from 116c to 153c/kg for the dearer drafts to live exporters and feeders. Light weight drafts sold from 100c to 214c, with best pastoral drafts from 130c to 174c/kg. SOURCE: NLRS
