MUCHEA LIVESTOCK CENTRE CATTLE SALE 24 JUNE 2013 Numbers contracted by around 10% and were dominated by pastoral supplies. Quality was mixed and included a larger percentage of secondary pastoral cattle. Local trade cattle were limited in number, as were good quality local stores. Cow numbers were strong, with solid supplies of both pastoral cows and bulls. Competition eased for most categories; however local trade cattle and better local store drafts were fully firm to dearer. Steers to feeders and restockers made from 120c to 206c, with the better quality light weights selling from 190c to 206c to be firm to 11c/kg dearer. Pastoral heavy weight yearlings made from 130c to 177c for the better bred drafts, averaging around 171c/kg. Store local heifers sold from 140c to 181c for the better bred drafts with pastoral drafts making between 90c to 154c and averaging around 115c/kg. Medium and heavy weight feeder steers were limited in supply and made 130c to 196c/kg. The limited supply of prime trade steers made from 210c to 258c, up 3c to average 237c/kg. Trade heifers made 160c to 208c/kg with prices holding firm. Grown steer prices were 10c to 20c/kg cheaper, with quality back on last week. Pastoral drafts ranged from 112c to 156c for the better lines, with 500kg to 600kg export weights from 128c to 156c/kg. Local heavy weight steers made 128c to 160c/kg. Grown heifers were 7c cheaper for the majority, with prices from 92c to 160c/kg. Pastoral supplies ranged from 98c to 123c/kg. Strong cow supply resulted in price falls in excess of 8c/kg across most categories. Heavy cows made from 104c to 133c and averaged around 123c/kg. Medium weight cows made from 90c to 131c, with pastoral drafts back 5c to average 124c/kg. Light weight cows eased by 2c, selling mostly between 80c and 120c/kg. Bulls varied with light weight export bulls mostly firm to sell between 145c and 200c/kg. Medium weight bulls to export were back 10c to make from 125c to 150c, with heavy bulls to processors back 8c and selling from 90c to 139c/kg. SOURCE: NLRS
