MULTI-DIMENSIONAL CALLING Memorise: Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; (Eph 5:19) Read: 1 Samuel 16:1-14 1 And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons. 2 And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD. 3 And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will shew thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee. 4 And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably? 5 And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice. 6 And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORDS anointed is before him. 7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. 8 Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this. 9 Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this. 10 Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these. 11 And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither. 12 And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he. 13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah. 14 But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him. Message: Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you (John 15:16). Todays reading, talks about how David was chosen. One lesson to note here is that Gods choice precedes our choice. He does not wait for us to choose to serve Him before He chooses us. He has made His choice even before we were created. God has chosen you. He has seen some potentials in you before choosing you; afterall, He put them there. He wants you to bear fruit for His glory. May you not waste the divine deposits in you in Jesus Name. One man who did not waste Gods deposits was David. He had great potentials to be a musician, king, warrior, priest, shepherd and prophet and he satisfied God in all these areas. Unlike king Saul whose bid to offer a sacrifice that only the priest should, cost him his crown, David enquired of the Lord with an ephod meant for only priests. His several fold ministry is a fore runner of the ministry of modern day believers. If you please God in everything you do and give Him what He wants, you can successfully operate in several ministries. According to Revelation 1:5-6, we are called to be kings and priests unto God. 1 Peter 2:9 says we have a peculiar priesthood - a royal one. We are also warriors because we have the fight of faith before us (Ephesians 6:1-12). We are armed with Gods armour just because we are called into this spiritual fight. In addition, Acts 2:16-17 says because of the outpouring of Gods Spirit on us, we shall prophesy as prophets. We are also called to be musicians hence, Ephesians 5:19 spells out the type of songs we should sing. We are called into a multi-fold ministry. However, to be able to function effectively as king, prophet, priest, warrior, musician and shepherd, we must have a heart for God like David. We must do His bidding every step of the way and give Him anything He wants. Are you effectively playing these multiple roles? Ask the Lord for grace today. Action Point: Thank God for His multi-dimensional calling on your life. Ask for grace not to fail Him in any area.
