I have experience as a Counsel as to how the Chandigarh Police is afraid of laying its hands on ctiminals with connections in Police or bureaucracy. They commit crimes here and there, but are not brought to book. They also threaten the victims, intimidate them. The Police does not take these incidents seriously. The culprit in the instant case has apparently shaken the entire Chandigarh. He would hopefully be nabbed sooner or later, and would also be punished. But UT Police must revise its strategy of dealing with criminals. A criminal having a "knife" is caught by the Police, and he could murder one of them, and injur the other. Were the Policemen without any arms? Whether it is not deirable that before detaining a person, the Police should search him? There are many questions that require answers from Chandigarh Police. For the time being, however, the dependents of the killed Police official, must be compensated under the relevant policies.
