MURPHY AND PERKINS SET FOR V8ST ENDUROS Newly crowned BNT New Zealand V8 SuperTourers Sprint Series Champion Greg Murphy is all set for the first V8ST endurance round at Hampton Downs this weekend. Four-time Bathurst 1000 winner Murphy will share his Mike Pero Racing Holden VE Commodore with Jack Perkins, son of six-time Bathurst winner Larry, and a highly capable driver in his own right. The last outing for Murphy at Hampton Downs was a successful one – he dominated the meeting with wins in all three races. “We tend to go pretty well at Hampton Downs, last time we were there the car worked very well,” Murphy said. “This weekend, there’s a real excitement factor with a lot of drivers coming over from Australia. It’s fantastic for the category to have so much talent in the field and it’s going to be extremely competitive. “We’re fortunate to have Jack back, he’s among the very best of them and we’re sure he’ll do a great job.” Perkins is making his first V8ST start since last year’s enduros and has high hopes after a successful run in 2012, Perkins arriving in NZ on Thursday. “I really enjoyed racing over there last year and I can’t wait to be back,” Perkins said. “We won three races last year, and this year’s races are going to be especially important because Greg is leading the series. “I haven’t raced at Hampton Downs before but Murph has a great record there so I’ll be able to learn from him. “With all the racing I’ve been doing this year in the Dunlop Series and the V8 enduros, I’m as match-fit as I’ve ever been.” The weekend’s action kicks off with two practice sessions on Saturday morning, followed by one qualifying session for each driver and a 38 lap race in the afternoon. Two 56 lap races will be held on Sunday and all three races include a compulsory pit stop for a driver change. Murphy is coming off the back of a fifth-place finish for the Holden Racing Team in the recent Sandown 500, while Jack Perkins also finished in the top 10 with Scott McLaughlin.
