MUSEUM ITEM ON DISPLAY: UNION OFFICER SWORD This sword was carried by 1st Lieutenant William Seely Grow of Red Wing MN. 1lt. Grow raised a company for the 2nd Minnesota Volunteer Infantry and accompanied it to Louisville KY in October of 1861. He was appointed Regimental Quartermaster and served in several campaigns from Kentucky to Northern Georgia. Early in 1863 he learned of his wife’s death and resigned his commission and returned to Red Wing MN to raise his sons. He continued to render service as Provost Marshal, enforcing the draft until the end of the war. He died November 11, 1905 at Dawson MN and is buried in Red Wing MN.
