MUSIC OF THE SPIRITUAL REALM! – PART 1 It appears that in heaven there is also ‘spirit’ incense (if you read my previous post you will understand my use of the word ‘spirit’, rather than spiritual). This spirit incense was offered up to God with the prayers of the saints. The prayers were not the incense but the incense appears to have played a role in the offering up of our prayers. Again all this may be allegorical and not literal but the point is that in heaven there seems to be a lot of stuff up there that we use down here! There is a LITERAL living in heaven as there is here on earth…heaven has gates and mansions and streets paved with gold! There is a CITY of God in heaven! But let us leave suppositions and move on to things that really matter… 1 Chronicles 16:37 So he left there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD Asaph and his brethren, to minister before the ark continually, as every days work required: When David the king and prophet instituted 24/7 Worship in the Tabernacle, he was merely following a Pattern he had ‘seen’ in the heavens. It was an unprecedented thing he was doing…no one before him had ever conceived of the idea of worshipping God entirely with music, let alone day and night. David must have seen the Pattern of CEASELESS PRAISE in the heavens, for he was a prophet. It was not a foreign concept to Jesus Christ during his earthly sojourn either, for when his disciples and the multitudes began to praise him on his way to Jerusalem seated on a colt, and the Pharisees began to advise him to rebuke his disciples…this was Jesus’ reply… Luke 19:37-40 And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out. In heaven Praise is CEASELESS…that is the nature of heavenly praise! David got it right and he knew exactly what he was doing…it had been revealed to him what to do. It was so important that Christ said were the multitudes to stop praising him especially at that crucial moment, then the stones would immediately CRY out…in other words, the stones would automatically take their place and continue the ceaseless praise. Though there are probably several kinds of musical instruments in heaven, but there appears to be only one genre of music – CEASELESS PRAISE AND WORSHIP! All music in heaven appears to be directed ONLY towards God…music in heaven is not used for entertainment, pleasure or self-amusement, for there is no SELF there…only the glorification of God. Did you know that David invented his own instruments of Music ostensibly to use in Temple Worship? He presumably didn’t want to use instruments that were already in use in the world system at that time…he wanted instruments that were wholly consecrated to God. Amos 6:3-5 3 Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near; 4 That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall; 5 That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, LIKE DAVID; It was this same David that revealed that God dwells within the praises of Israel: Psalms 22:2-3 O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent. But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. It was David that revealed God sometimes chooses to ride upon a Cherub: Psalms 18:9-10 9 He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness was under his feet. 10 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind. A Cherub is for want of a better term, an angel and a spirit of music. Ezekiel 28:13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared IN thee in the day that thou wast created. This verse of scripture speaks of the creation of Lucifer. When he was created, certain instruments were also created by God’s workmanship within him – the bible speaks here of tabrets (predecessors of tambourines) and pipes (predecessors of flutes and other wind-blown instruments). They were prepared IN him. This is the proof that Lucifer was the head of an order of Angels that were unique in that they possessed in-built musical instruments. They were in effect spirits of music. The book of Hebrews refers to angels as ministering spirits sent to minister for us who are heirs of salvation, so it is no news if we refer to them as spirits. We also know from Scripture that there were other instruments created within Lucifer not mentioned in the above scripture verse. Isaiah 14:11-12 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols : the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! Lucifer also had viols (predecessors of violins and other string instruments inbuilt within him and possibly several other instruments not mentioned in the bible. It goes to show how it was possible for Cherubim to offer ceaseless praise to God with their inbuilt music…they didn’t have to blow or play instruments…the instruments just sounded naturally from within…the same way our hearts beat without any effort on our part. The Praise came from WITHIN…and without effort…it was not something that those angels did consciously. However notice what happened after Lucifer fell…the above scripture talks about the NOISE of his viols…it was no longer a sweet smelling savour unto God…no longer a pleasant sound either…his now corrupted nature had also corrupted the sound that the instruments within him produced. There is a lot to learn from the make-up of Lucifer and all the other Cherubim, for if their leader was created with instruments within…would the other Cherubim be created without it? Human beings are born with only one heart…it would be an aberration of creation if one were to be born with two…it is part of the make-up of Man to be born with only one heart. Praise comes from within…not from without…from the heart not from the mouth. Matthew 15:8-9 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. We can draw near to God in prayer with our mouths…we can even honour him in Praise with our lips…but because our heart is far from him, our Worship is in vain…valueless to God. Lucifer’s Praise become valueless, empty noise the moment he fell…he did not deliberately create noisy music…he couldn’t…he had no control over what came out from within…left to him he probably would have loved to continue making sweet music…but the praise within was tied to his spiritual condition within…it was the purity within that maintained the sweetness of his music…it wasn’t any conscious effort on his part.
