MUSIC POST! Throwing down a list of 10 albums that changed my life and perspective of music (in no particular order). Also, Im sticking to one album per artist/band, because otherwise this would just be a list of 10 Bowie and Beatles albums. 1. Changesonebowie by David Bowie. Yes, its a compilation, but finding a beat up cassette of this album when I was 10 years old was 100% my monkey touching the monolith moment. It all started there. 2. The White Album by The Beatles. This couldve been pretty much any Beatles album, but this was the first one I got into beyond the mega hits. Such a world of variety on that album. I think my generally wide musical tastes can be credited to this album and Changesone. 3. Thriller by Michael Jackson. This should be on everyone around my ages list, otherwise youre revising your own history. I loved this album, you loved this album, EVERYONE loved this album. 4. Use Your Illusions by Guns N Roses. Obviously, Appetite For Destruction is the classic and a better album, but I was a little young to get it when it was new. I was at the perfectly impressionable age of 14 when the Illusions came out, and GnR was MASSIVE at that point. Picked up both albums the day they came out at the Homers Music & Gifts in Bellevue; on cassette, of course. 5. In Utero by Nirvana. I still like this album better than Nevermind. The whole backstory about them fighting with their record label about the record not being commercial enough? I totally ate that shit up. Another fun fact; I started playing bass because I thought Krist Novoselic looked cool in the Heart Shaped Box video. 6. Blink 182 by Blink 182. I was already super into Blink by the time this came out, but this is the one that sticks with me hardest. I should give Enema of the State some credit, though. From 1998 to 2000 or so I listened to pretty much nothing but classic rock, because I (for the most part) hated nu Metal, which was the mainstream rock of the time. Enema brought me back around to giving new music a chance. 7. Almost Killed Me by The Hold Steady. No other band/album hit me as hard on the initial listen as The Hold Steady. I was laughing, damn near crying in joy. Those lyrics and that voice blew me away. And the music rocked to boot! Plus they were/are a top shelf live band. 8. From Under The Cork Tree by Fall Out Boy. I wont lie, this album kicked me into a bit of a midlife crisis when it came out. I was WAY to old to go all in on FOB, but by god I went in head first. I think Ive seen them live more than any other band except maybe The Hold Steady. 9. Whatever and Ever Amen by Ben Folds Five. This couldve been any Ben Folds related album. Hes up there with Bowie and The Beatles for me; you could put on any song at any time and Im going to be into it. 10. Is This It by The Strokes. Ill argue the point with anyone that this was the most influential album released since 2000. Great songs, great look, great band. I still listen to The Strokes weekly. ...and 5 more quick ones. 1. Wasting Light by Foo Figthers 2. Elephant by The White Stripes 3. Ball Hog or Tugboat by mike watt 4. Double Nickels on the Dime by The Minutemen 5. Fair Warning by Van Halen.
