MUSICIANS aim to rock around the clock to raise money for a good cause. They will be taking part in a 24-hour buskathon in aid of Diabetes UK. The marathon is the idea of North Broomhill man Derek Allan, who has already raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity from his musical activities and other ventures as varied as sponsored walks and darts marathons. He has joined forces with fellow singer-songwriter Sam Gibson for the epic event, which will be held at the Social Club at Dinnington, Sams home village, near Newcastle. It will run from 4pm on Friday, August 8 until 4pm the following day and people are being invited to come along and play a few songs, or just enjoy the music and throw money for the performers busker-style. Derek, who was recently diagnosed as diabetic himself, is hoping to raise more than £500 from the event. He is one half of the band We Steal Flyers, who have toured in the UK, Europe and America. Together with his wife, Melanie, he also runs Acoustic Magic, a music promotions company, and the Dinnington marathon is one of a series of extreme music based charity missions they are undertaking.
