MUSINGS FROM THE MATERNITY WARD I guided a baby into the world today as I had many times before. A gentle smile spread across my lips as I heard that very first cry. Yes, tis true, Id seen this many a time, enough to bore a soul. But you see-ee, its birth....birth.....birth....the miracle of live....oh! that cry that announces I am here. How can one cease to be amazed by that? Where was he? Where came he? If he had to tell of his travels, what would he say? Did he find it cozy where he was? Did he like what he ate? When he didnt, how did he complain? Why did he announce himself with a cry? To inflate his lungs? But he could just as well have laughed. As I mused on, I became aware of the burst of cheers- the hugging, the clapping, the pumping and the dancing.....My smile spread up to my ears. But somewhere in the story, I began to ponder as I gazed silently at my hands. Theyve guided this baby into the world today...but, what will his story be? This cuddly, innocent, adorable bundle......What will his story be? Will it be told that he dined with the kings? .......Or would he at the devils feet? Who, what, how is it decided, who will dine with the kings and who at the devils feet? I said a prayer as I washed my hands for my own task there was done, but the question still lingers.....who? what? how is it decided, who will dine with the kings....and who at the devils feet. ......................atim...................
