MY 12 WEEKS AS A ONE DAY LEADER For 12 weeks I was a One Day - TopicsExpress

MY 12 WEEKS AS A ONE DAY LEADER For 12 weeks I was a One Day Leader. From 90 contestants I held my own until only three (3) competitors remained standing. Then my world fell apart two days before the finals of the television show, One Day Leader. I received information from the production house that I was disqualified. Why? Because apparently, I did not disclose that one of my relatives works for the SABC. This was the first time I was asked this information face to face if I was related to someone in the SABC. With surprised faces from production, I was asked if I had communicated this information to any of my fellow contestants. My reply was no. With my relative working for SABC2, I thought this was not a problem because she is not in any way involved with One Day Leader. We are both separate people involved in separate channels. Throughout my 12 weeks on the reality show my relative never helped me with my 9 wins out of 12 debates. My supporters kept me on the voting board (top 3 in terms of votes) every single episode. My Vision statements to the public was my content. My campaigns to the public did not involve her, she had no input in any of my speeches that I gave to the public. I received information from the production house that I was disqualified on Saturday morning, two days before the final because this was against their competition policy at the SABC. Something that was never communicated to me throughout the One Day Leader process (from top 90 to top 3). I asked if I could go live on the show and reveal this information to my supporters who have been voting for me over the 12 weeks. I received confirmation that I may do this (from the production house) as long as I didn’t ruin the image of the show. I then gave a copy of what I was going to say to the production house, so they could hold me accountable to what I wanted to reveal to the public. My father received a call at about 2pm (2 hours and 30 minutes before the final) that I may not be allowed to go live on television and inform the public about what has happened to me. I wanted to be accountable and transparent (attributes of what a leader is) to the public. Despite my bravery, I was denied this opportunity. I tried my best to be honest throughout the journey of One Day Leader. I kept any personal information of myself and did not try gain support from the public with events that have happened in my short life but rather inspire a nation through practical content I have learned so much on One Day Leader and made so many connections along the way. I was taught many things on this journey. The biggest lesson I learned over the 12 weeks was accountability as well as transparency. I am still recovering from the shock and disappointment that I was not able to appear on the final show after leading for most of the 12 weeks. On the 12 episode I finished first, clear of the other two candidates. This again was not because of my relative, it was because of my debating and leadership skills. Ive worked hard, Ive proven myself over and over again. Thank you to all the supporters for the help throughout the journey. I will keep I treating with you all so we can build our country into a better future. Through leadership I salute you
