MY DEVOTIONAL (Lord have mercy) Psalms 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. Yesterday, I was moving on the highway on my way home and I was driving at a top speed just as all the cars around me traveling on the same journey. For a split moment I took my eyes off the road to see what track number was playing on the car CD player and just then I realised that the car in front of me had instantaneously applied his breaks and was slowing down. I had to slam the breaks as well but knew that I couldn’t bring the car to a halt before I would hit the vehicle in front of me so I swerved to the outer lane in a flash. By God’s grace, there was no vehicle by my side on the outer lane lest…. Because of the speed of the vehicle and the instant swerve, the tyres of the vehicle lost full grip with the surface of the road. I realised I was just straying off the outer lane into the ditch. I was enabled quickly with my two hands to wheel the steer towards the inner lane to prevent the car from falling into the ditch. And since the car was not stable on the ground, the direction obliged the inner turn of the steering wheel but rather at its own will. When it finally obliged to turn in, again it was flying now into the inner lane because there was still no control and calmness. Seeing that the vehicle was whizzing into the inner lane and definitely into another car and into a ditch, I turned the steer again towards the outer lane once again. The car was tossed onto the fringe of the outer lane with half the tyre on the road but now it was under control and I moved on without stopping. As the vehicle kept tossing in and out, the tyres were screeching loud because I had slammed the brakes to the full and all the cars behind and beside me had stopped. All this while as I was battling for control I kept reciting one of my favourite expressions, “Lord have mercy”. This expression is a prayer in itself. And lo and behold the Lord was merciful and He caused the angels to hold the vehicle into stability. The “Lord have mercy” mantra came out of my mouth instantly without thinking, apparently because that is what I say the most so it came in handy. What are the common words of your mouth and the common themes of the meditations of your heart? Would they come in handy when needed the most?
