MY HEARTY APPLAUSE for friend Lee Van Ham at the all-volunteer org, Jubilee Economics Ministries for developing and promoting sustainable living on our one earth (since one earth is all we got)! Each of these pledge items are indeed challenging for me (and I thought I was on top of this stuff)! Applause also for friends Carol D. Marsh, Mike Ltittle and Cassie Lewis for already stepping up to the challenge. Read the text below or click on the link & consider whether you, too, could live this way. TEXT: “Take the Pledge to Make the Jubilee Economy Stronger in 2013” Our daily choices decide whether the jubilee economy gets stronger or the economy of chainstores, big banks, low paid workers, and unhealthy fast food. If you will take the following Eight Point Jubilee Pledge for 2013, please leave your name and comment. 1.I will reduce my food purchases from supermarket chains by 50%. If I am already at zero, I will help someone else try the local alternatives I’m using. 2.I will use a credit union or local community bank for my banking needs instead of a megabank (Wells Fargo, Citigroup, Bank of America, US Bank, and many more). If I am already doing doing this, I will help someone else try the local alternatives I’m using. 3.I will choose Fair Trade coffees, teas, and chocolate for at least 75% of my purchases of those products. 4.When eating out, I will choose NO fastfood chains and 75% or more of my restaurant choices will serve at least some locally sourced foods on their menu. 5.I will neither buy nor drink water in plastic bottles. 6.I will have cloth bags with me whenever I enter a store to make a purchase so that I will need neither plastic nor paper bags to hold my purchases. 7.I will pick up at least one piece of trash when walking on public land or property as a reminder that I’m walking on our great commons, that this commonwealth belongs to me, you, and all all species. 8.I will tell at least 5 others that I have taken this pledge and urge them to do the same. When they do we’ll celebrate over a mug of Fair Trade coffee or tea at my expense. jubilee-economics.org/journal/2012/12/10/take-the-pledge-to-make-the-jubilee-economy-stronger-in-2013.html
