MY HOOPS HERO -- For the first twenty years of my life I played basketball more than anything else, always trying to emulate my hero Julious Dr. J Erving. I learned to dunk a golf ball on a 7-foot-high rim when I was twelve. So each year I learned to jump higher and play with a larger ball, until my freshman year when I could finally dunk on the big rim. Dr. J was always my hero, so of course I was totally freaked out when I got the chance to shoot an exclusive portrait of him for the Inquirer Magazine in 1988. He was so kind and elegant and I managed to shoot 4 frames on the 4x5 camera and a roll of 120 film without peeing my pants. Photo by J. Kyle Keener copyright 1988 for the Inquirer Magazine
