MY LAST COMMUNICATION via Constant Contact, to constituents, went - TopicsExpress

MY LAST COMMUNICATION via Constant Contact, to constituents, went out Monday afternoon. It reads: On December 3rd, the governor will be swearing in the members of the 127th Maine Legislature. While I regret that the people of our district have chosen someone new to represent them in Augusta next year, it has been a real honor to serve as your state representative over the past two years. I learned a lot from you and relished every chance I had to stand up for Washington County. It was and is very important to me to make sure that the powers that be in Augusta dont forget about us. There are a number of issues I have been lucky to work on during my time at the State House. We fought hard for the residents of Trescott and their right to have a say on the construction of wind turbines. We successfully prevented the Bucks Harbor Correctional Facility from closing. We raised concerns about funding for nursing homes and other assisted living facilities, and we fought for better approaches to mental health care and the struggle with drug addiction. We advocated for a better approach to rockweed harvesting that both promotes sustainability and respects the rights of property owners. Im especially proud of the Legislatures efforts to prevent deeper cuts to the states revenue sharing program, which would have resulted in a brutal property tax increase that the people in our towns can ill afford. We still have a lot more to do to make sure people on low and fixed incomes arent taxed out of their homes, and I hope the next Legislature will take further action. Your new state representative will be Will Tuell from East Machias. I hope you will seek him out whenever you have questions or concerns about state government, just as you did with me. Like me, he cares a great deal about our communities and will certainly be anxious to be of assistance. Even with our change in leadership this December, I will always welcome the chance to be of service to any of you. You can contact me any time, and I will do what I can. Thank you again for this opportunity to serve you in the Legislature. Sincerely, Katherine Contact Information 207-215-4952 |kcaugusta@gmail 5 Somersville Avenue Lubec, ME 04652
