MY LETTER TO APC PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRANTS Umaru Dembo, mni 5th - TopicsExpress

MY LETTER TO APC PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRANTS Umaru Dembo, mni 5th November, 2014 Abuja, Nigeria. Dear gentlemen, I can see that no lady has dared indicate interest in this gargantuan race for the coveted seat of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to be snatched by an APC contestant from the party that has been ruling Nigeria since 1999. Those in the race are known to me and I just find it irresistible to return to my coveted profession of journalism and write the interesting scenario unveiling. All the major contestants I know and only one may not know me on one to one basis. First let me start with a fellow writer and publisher, Sam Nda-Isaiah, who declared recently in Minna. I greet you, please accept my condolences on the death of our late colleague, Clement Nda-Isaiah, besides that I trust you know what Nigeria is in for right now. There is no need to lecture you either on the needs of Nigeria and indeed northern Nigerians who are desperately looking for a solution to our problems. With the retinue of reporters who mingle with the ordinary man and woman in the streets and towns and villages giving you feed back, there is no doubt we need the cooperation of every individual to secure our present, near and distant future and of course our political survival cannot be left to the whims and caprices of the loose so called northerners pauperised by the recent civilian dispensations of Obasanjo and Jonathan, who made sure they dashed the hopes and survival system of our people. Sam I salute you and assure you that a good man needs not be in too much haste, it will come at the right time and when it comes, you can be a good driver of the modern trains that we need in Nigeria, but you need to keep learning the art step by step, so I welcome one of the persons in this contest who is using his or group sweat and not government money to attract people to his declaration. By the time you really reach there, good Nigerian men and women will bring themselves to your declaration venue without much problem. When you get to the Convention venue on the 8th of December, 2014 I am sure you will show light to your compatriots to see who should start this all important bout of doing away with Jonathan, whose people had already declared that they would fight if theirs is not returned to Aso Rock. I thank you for your patience to read my missive as many including myself do patiently read your writing after paying. Incidentally , Sam, you were never on the PDP train! Next is my friend before, and now if he so wishes, since Nigerians in office have the choice to maintain or cut friendships with their friends. You are very important to this race, you also got a message delivered by your very outing. You are not new in this game, you have tried presidential contests a couple of times, you look good always when you do, in style. This time your declaration in Kaduna last Monday was another first! You got every northerner moving towards your intent, of course, if it is Dan Jikan Sokoto, the Jos, Plateau State magnate, now governor of the only state that locked up northerners and labelled them( boko haram), but you did not know. Later, your state also wanted all northerners to register and carry I.D Cards in the Nigerian state of Imo, as if they are foreigners! All this, you did not know. The man is a genius, he talks well, thinks well, very benevolent, kind and has built schools in various parts of Nigeria for free! Wondeful man, what Rochas did and is still doing is far from millions of individuals, indeed those opportuned to have stacks of money, Naira or Dollars, hardly have the guts, love and philanthropy to do what Owelle is doing. My congratulations to you, I am sure you are getting there , when you do, there will be no doubt you will make a good President. For now, however, what they say is that the South has had more than its fair share of ruler ship of Nigeria since 1999. The rough drive Northerners had and are still having as a result of Obasanjos control and now Jonathan is more than affordable to say the least. So Owelle, you know you and many of you were with the hound, PDP, the more we see their wisdom, the less we understand. We just hope you will tarry a little for all of us to be assured that you were not in good scheme to have heads or tails your last party wins! Next is another friend, but with governors, I can only claim him as my friend as I do not know exactly what he thinks of me, either friend or just someone he knew during the Abacha Constitutional Conference, someone with whom we went to Hajj as Committee Chairman on Hajj from the then Constitutional Conference. He is a great man, he struggles or tries, whichever is the better of a human effort to achieve a goal. He was in the House of Reps, a Constitutional Conference, Governor, Minister of Defence and now Governor again. Kwankwaso has shown great skill in manipulating man, politics and material to change Kano, suddenly he got the recipe for making Kano great! He can also make Nigeria great, but it is not synonymous, may be he can have a little patience to perfect his art and turn around his blessings beyond the red cap culture to capture Nigeria and make the same impact. I wish you luck, you know some of us have taken a big chunk of our living, so we pray for you to do well when you get there. Meanwhile, we cannot be unavailable to tell the truth to anybody like Kwankwaso, who loves the useful truth. Nigeria has been in trouble since 1999, the civil rule looks like a curse to those of us in Northern Nigeria, it is a great trial, it will be overcome with people like Kwankwaso, but we must also tell ourselves the bitter truth, we need ourselves now, tomorrow and years to come for our children and children’s children. That being so, all Northerners are worried about the so called (boko haram) in the North, with north-east now the heaviest receiver of the blow, and of course the north-west is next and finally the north –central! For this reason, and for the troubles yet unseen in the Kano you are currently developing, you need to be cautious as you follow this intricate ambition of yours lest you get what you are building destroyed . If everybody in the south of Nigeria would refuse to contest the next Presidential race, we in the north need to tarry a little and think of a way to wax together and field a candidate that will make it to Aso Villa in May, 2015. I will also not forget to mention that the solidarity stent you came with and the spirit of togetherness with the other defected PDP governors will not intoxicate you and them in trying to force delegates to vote you. You are good enough to be voted for, but to employ spurious motives will be counter productive. Having said this much to you, I rest my case and hope when all of you meet at the boxing ring, we shall have a good result and no injuries. We also hope that there will be no going back to PDP, and you will all make it possible for the North to clinch the Presidential seat, the threat from Asari Dokubo notwithstanding. Now to you our former Vice-President, important personality in Nigeria, you, I did not know as much as the others, so forgive me if I make any mistakes, you know how research and other activities tend to be these days, one can make mistakes, can be duped, mislead or get sketchy truthful information, but I will do my best to say only the good things that I think you portray to the public, I will also of course tell you some of the bitter truth that your political manoeuvres give you the chance to operate. Before the Vice-Presidency under the tutelage of one of the most unfriendly Presidents to Northerners, Obasanjo, you were well known in the Customs Department, you were elected as Governor of Adamawa only for you to take up a more lucrative/important appointment of Vice-President. After that you were in and out of PDP and finally now you are hopefully settled in All Progressives Congress APC, please remain in it whether you get or loose the Presidential ticket. You know , whatever goes around comes round, I mean you were once in a television interview seen saying something like you are more of a Nigerian, and the North is really of secondary stance to you, of course if you were just a Nigerian you would not have been picked to be a Vice-President, but if you are now looking for a President, it is much easier, I understand at most of your nocturnal meetings with those from the North you tell them that you are a good northerner , I believe you. We have your good records of helping the north, you are certainly having a university at your credit, but the university is not like the Rocha’s Secondary Schools, free! You have also many other projects perhaps that you can be proud of in the name of the north, but we are assured that you are well positioned to pitch Naira and Dollar in the fight to make it to Aso Villa should you choose to make use of money. I hope the delegates we have will only choose you for your qualities and not for the money they can put in their poor pockets! We are worried about corruption, indecency, lawlessness, insecurity, poor management all seeming burdens from the party you left not too long ago. I am sure you were able to shed all the vices there before coming to APC or at least, throw them away because of the important position you wish to take in New Nigeria. Poor Nigerians now think that they cannot run away from Jonathan only for them to pick another Jonathan. I wish you well in your endeavours, and hope that all will cooperate with you if you get the ticket, but you too must be ready to do same if the ticket is destined to someone else. Finally for all of you, you have a senior amongst you in the contest. He seniors you in the position itself as Head of State, he seniors you in age, for our present problem of internal descention, he is a general, he is also the man Nigerians want with no monetary incentive despite depressing economic situation in Nigeria, he is the one that millions of Nigerians will refuse to vote and even have the slightest faith in election and electioneering if after the convention it turns out that the common man and woman are swindled and someone and not him is returned as the APC Presidential Candidate for 2015 elections. I want everybody to watch it, you either win together or loose together!
