MY MUSLIM EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME! I felt blessed as a simple creation of the universe. I had a great feeling at Masjid Istiqlal, the biggest mosque in Asia and the third in the world (next to Mecca, and another in Saudi Arabia). I had the privilege to share the Islamic life, to thank Allah sincerely, hold Holy Koran and get oriented about it, and enter a sacred place which in my heart and soul is an experience of a lifetime- sharing faith with my Muslim borthers and sisters. The beautiful mosque is just across a Catholic Cathedral which share parking spaced during special events like Christmas time, and Ramadan. A concrete manifestation of tolerance and mutual respect, the way it should be in the modern age and time. Indonesia is the biggest Muslim country in the world. I entered with reverence to the sacredness of the Islamic faith, knelt with respect of a Holy One who brothers and sister muslims call Allah, who I may have not known as much as Christ but I respect as a God to them and could be the same one that I know but of another name. I held a holy book which to me was similar to the bible in essence and in form relative to reference of faith. I did not bow for pictures sake, but with genuine respect for what He represents to the faith of the Millions of peoples from all over. Why did i feel good? Because at the end of the day, it is not about religion- it is about SPIRITUALITY, which is the other half of our being. I stand in this modern times with respect to everyones faith regardless of how capable they are in respecting this phenomenal diversity. I felt good because my ecumenical stance has been here since i gained consciousness of my own faith. Indonesia taught me more how to embrace diversity and to celebrate individuality and choices. I look forward to seeing this world as a better place equitable although not necessarily equal. I look forward to feeling the world more safe which protects as it asserts. I look forward to contributing to the betterment of the society which simply wants to live and let live, love and be loved. PEACE be on EARTH...
