MY REASONS TO BE GRATEFUL: All my life I have been grateful to the people who selflessly adopted me at the end of WW2. I had a hard and challenging childhood, and was (as my grandmother called me) a difficult little bugger BUT through thick and thin the Cutler family stuck with me and raised me as best they could. I am eternally grateful to them for that. I am eternally grateful for NOT being seduced into being a wage slave. I am a man who is congenitally unsuited to any form of discipline, other than self-discipline, and so I have been singularly inept when it comes to following any kind of orders from people who have considered themselves my superiors. I am not, and never have been, what could be considered military material - I am not a soldier and have never been one though I have served time in the psychedelic army of the sixties. I am grateful to the universe for initially saving me from the scourge of war during my birth, and thereafter saving me from the nightmare of the battlefield. I am grateful for the discovery of music, my companion on the road thru life - it has been a blessing. I am grateful to the Grateful Dead who adopted me and showed me the path thru the trees. I am grateful for the ladies who supported and loved me, including the mother of my children, and I am most of all supremely grateful late in my life for the magic appearance of Jackie whom I love. For her love and kindness I am supremely grateful she is all I ever dreamed of and makes me feel blessed. AND, I am grateful to all my friends who down the years have helped me be and grow, survive and learn, live and love. Without our friends we are nothing and I am grateful for each and every one of them. I am grateful for the discovery of writing - the decision to be a writer has left me calmed and satisfied though with a million things to do as I attempt to complete the work before I die. Lastly, but by no means least, I am grateful for the discovery of the teachings of The Lord Buddha which have changed every single thing about my life, surely for the better - its a continuing process but one for which I feel deep gratitude.
