MY THOUGHTS ON THE LAKE EFFECT THROUGH THE NIGHT: As of this - TopicsExpress

MY THOUGHTS ON THE LAKE EFFECT THROUGH THE NIGHT: As of this writing around 8:45pm EST, another significant burst of snow is coming right for Downtown South Bend. This band has been going on & off since late this afternoon, dumping another ~4 for those of you in South Bend (thats on top of the 6 you saw this morning!). If you live within 10-15mi of South Bend, you likely have a decent amount of snow at your home. If you live farther away than that (Plymouth, Bremen, Goshen, Elkhart, St Joseph/Benton Harbor, Warsaw, etc), you likely have very little or no snow. This is the nature of lake effect. Within a 10-15mi radius, it dumps buckets and buckets of snow. Elsewhere, you see sunshine and clear skies. Unfortunately, Downtown South Bend is the bulls eye for this event, which impacts a significant amount of people. If you live in South Bend or close to it, I would expect even more snow through the overnight hours. A mini-boundary will pass overnight, which will help divert the winds a bit more WNW versus NW. This will help shift bands to SW Michigan versus N IN. That said, Berrien and Cass counties will likely see snow increase overnight, while parts of northern Indiana see snow lessen. I am making graphics for the 10 & 11pm news, but am trying my best to stay active on social media to keep you updated. If you have any specific questions regarding timing & intensity, post below and I will try to answer within the next 20 min. Lake effect has a mind of its own and is literally impossible to predict with specific details, but once the bands form (which they have), its easier to answer more generic questions. Hope this helps explain & ease concerns! Those of you have havent seen a flake of snow today... I promise we arent making this up! :)
