MY WAY We have had concerned folk asking if Councillor Rooney - TopicsExpress

MY WAY We have had concerned folk asking if Councillor Rooney is all right, this follows reports from people who have seen and heard the leader perambulating around Garshake whistling albeit untunefully the Sinatra signature number my way This is perhaps indicative of his latest follicy voted through yesterday with the support of the SNP and other independents His motion to Council claims to have the effect of creating business, and job opportunities for 125 firms and 600 people, when asked who the firms were, he did not know. This will be based in Glasgow He is also intent on moving health provision away from the area as the second string on this Bow is for a £64 million Stratified Medicine imaging Centre of Excellence located in South Glasgow ( Southern General ) this will certainly not assist local campaigners who wish to maintain and grow services at the Vale of Leven This is EXPECTED to provide 471 high value jobs, but he could not quantify this either. The government who collect our money to fund the Health Service will put in £16 million over three years to be matched by £48 million of local funding provided by us, so it looks Ike a double whammy to me,we pay our taxes etc to central government which should fund provision of health care but then we pay again locally for services which should be provided by central government. But in the words of Jimmy Cricket theres more we are also to have a £4 million MediCity to bring academics entrepreneurs, clinicians and business support services to develop new healthcare services to the market. Do you see what it is yet. Look at the language entrepreneurs / business support/ market, It is the new Labour privatisation agenda. Oh and you will have noticed that this will not be based locally either There is also mention of another £9 million programme reducing unemployment for those on Employment Support and it is claimed that this will work with 4,000 individuals and helping at least 600 into sustained ( more than 6 months) employment. The Partners referred to in this part of his motion could not be identified either. Now this one really has me going, if you are on employment support then surely you are employed, intervention can only reduce benefit paid and cannot possibly be termed additional jobs. I feel at this stage I must point put that Martins way is certainly not My Way. But here is the cherry on the top he wants to commit public money to develop a site that we do not own,a site which is heavily contaminated,a site which is on a flood plain, has access problems, and is the object of other peoples interest. This is the fabled relief road, the only project which passed scrutiny by our partners 17 other schemes were rejected. Now I would love to support this particular policy but wait a ,moment let me Restate the issues that I have. The site is not owned by the Council, there is no agreement between the Council/Exxon regarding the sale of the land, in fact we are told that there are other interested parties who have expressed an interest in the site. In addition, the proposal for a relief road has not been properly thought through, e.g. the rail bridge, flooding risk etc. Oh and just for good measure despite the decision to go ahead with this WE HAVE NO PROJECT PLAN (with measurable milestones ) IN PLACE NOR DO WE HAVE A PLAN B IF THIS KITE DOES NOT FLY.
