MYSTERIES OF THE ROSARY FOR PEACE IN SYRIA by Fr. Bill Quinlivan 1. ANNUNCIATION: Holy Lord, may our brothers and sisters living in the horror of civil war remember that God is with them and call on the power of the name of Jesus. We pray that the Good News Archangel Gabriel spoke to the Virgin Mary may reinforce their sense that every annunciation of “Peace on Earth” can bring about new hope for peace to come and the conversion of hearts from hate to love. 2. VISITATION: O God, we ask that this day of prayer and fasting might inspire those suffering isolation and fear to reach out to others with a visit, a call of concern or expression of love and compassion. Lord, send your Holy Spirit into the desolate hearts that have known loss, violence and chaos…and may they seek and share this day the healing joy of Elizabeth and the Baptist who leapt in her womb at your Presence. 3. NATIVITY: Lord, we intercede for those who are about to, or have just given birth in places and situations less than ideal; in refugee camps or separated from their husbands and families due to war. May a holy joy be born through our prayers, and in your Providence, send angels and shepherds to bless these births. 4. PRESENTATION: Merciful Christ Jesus, as your Mother and St. Joseph brought you to the Temple, we ask you to bless the priests, bishops, lay ministers and religious who labor in the Syrian Church. And that our uniting with them through prayer and fasting might strengthen Faith and bring new Hope as they worship you—in churches, chapels, private homes and wherever they may be in need of our intercession. 5. FINDING IN THE TEMPLE: O Blessed Mother, with your husband, you experienced the anguish of separation from Jesus your Son for three days as you journeyed home from Jerusalem. May all who are unaware of family members’ whereabouts in this time of turmoil find, through their meditation on this Joyful Mystery, a profound Trust in You, and be reunited at the Table of the Lord in praise!
