Macau Info: Real estate industry: shopping malls and hotels can be built on Macau artificial island to divert visitors Hong Kong is mulling building commercial facilities on the artificial island at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge’s Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities (HKBCF), while no action has been taken on Macau artificial island. The real estate industry deems that it is not impossible to build commercial facilities on the artificial island if there is a way to attract visitors there. Diverting visitors to the artificial island for consumption and shopping will relieve the pressure of rents on SMEs in Macau. Lok Wai Dak, president of the Real Estate Development Association, said that Macau receives 30 million visitors each year, and its bearing capacity is reaching a saturate point, while some districts in the city are so crowded that it has affected residents’ daily life. However, as a tourist city, Macau can not restrict tourists from visiting the city.
