Machinist (Precision engineering) Reporting to Workshop manager The Role: Working in an engineering workshop environment, you will be a practical, accurate and competent machinist with both manual and CNC skills. Capable of setting-up and operating a range of typical workshop machinery. Producing and inspecting precision machined components from detailed drawings. Typical Work Activities Include: Setting and operating Lathes, Mills, Surface grinding, drilling, and other standard workshop equipment. CNC programming of Bridgeport/Heidenhain conversational and Hass/Fanuc G code system. Calculating dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics. Measure, examine, and test completed components in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers. Welding and brazing, beneficial but not essential. Requirements: Extensive experience and knowledge within an engineering/manufacturing workshop, undertaking typical work activities listed above. Able to understand BS drawing convention, dimensions, tolerances, limits and fits. Capable of completing jobs from receipt of drawing to de-burring and inspection of finished components. Working on one-off and small batches of simple and complex components, producing a high standard of work with good productivity. Able to communicate with and take instruction from managers and senior engineers.
