Macon Police Department Good News of the Day – Officer Recognized for Heroic Attempts to Save Lives Thursday, August 22, 2013 At today’s Compstat meeting (Computer Statistics) Precinct 3 Officer Christopher Burtrum was lauded for his heroic effort to revive a motorcyclist who recently was critically injured in an accident on Columbus Road. Officer Burtrum, who was off duty at the time, was first on the scene and performed CPR on the man. Unfortunately, the motorcyclist died. Christopher Burtrum was presented with a plaque by Precinct 3 Captain Eric Woodford and Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones who explained that the plaque was donated anonymously by citizens who wanted to thank and praise Officer Burtrum for his heroic effort to save the motorcyclist. Coroner Jones also added another example of Officer Burtrum’s heroics. Recently, while on duty he found a woman lying face down on Robinson Road. When he realized she did not have a pulse he immediately began administering CPR. When EMS arrived, they too tried to find her pulse, without success. They continued to work on her and rushed her to the hospital. Later that day the Precinct 3 Sgt. received a phone call from the hospital that they were able to revive the woman. According to Coroner Jones, the woman remains alive and hospitalized because of Officer Burtrum’s quick thinking and willingness to help. “I’ve Officer Burtrum on several cases. He is an asset to the MPD. In the motorcycle incident, he was off duty and didn’t have to stop. I am impressed with his demeanor, poise and professionalism. I like recognizing good officers when they’re there to hear it.” According to Captain Woodford: “Christopher Burtrum is an officer who will rise through the ranks. Hard working and pro-active, he is very humble and uses constructive criticism to become a better policeman. On behalf of Precinct 3 and the MPD, I congratulate him on receiving this recognition. It is well-deserved.”
