Madri-e-Meharban Football Tournament concludes Government keen to promote sports activities in the State: Speaker ‘Says Committee constitutes in this regard’ =>SRINAGAR, JULY 04: The Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Mr. Mubarak Gul has said that government is keen to promote sports culture among youth of the state. Addressing a large number of sports lovers at Polo Ground Srinagar after witnessing the final match of Madri-e-Meharbaan Football Tournament this morning, the Speaker said more and more such tournaments would be organized across the state to seek the involvement of youth in these sports activities.. He said that Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has constituted a Sports Committee for promotion of sports activities in the State adding that the Committee will be headed by MLA Budgam Aga Syed Rohullah Mehdi. He said that the government headed by the dynamic leadership of Omar Abdullah is planning to expand and strengthen the sports infrastructure in a big way. He asked youth to reap the benefit of all these events and help in changing their personalities. The tournament was organised by Kashmir Sports Srinagar in collaboration with the J&K Bank Ltd. About 20 teams of the Valley participated in month long tournament. The Final match was played today between Nishat Football Club and Safdar Football Pandrathan. District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, Mr. Farooq Ahmad Shah was guest of honour on the closing ceremony of the match. Earlier, the Organising Secretary Mr. Ghulam Rasool gave resume of the tournament. He appreciated the efforts of various departments who extended their whole hearted support to make this tournament a grand success. On the occasion, the Speaker distributed trophies, mementos and merit certificated among the players and officials of various departments. Later, the Speaker convened a meeting with the district administration in his office chamber to review the developmental scenario of the Iddgah constituency.
