Women who got the most magnesium were more likely to avoid dying from stroke, heart disease, heart failure, and all cardiovascular disease. For men, compared to those who got the least magnesium, those who got the most magnesium were half as likely to have a stroke. Doctors concluded getting enough magnesium in the diet can help extend life by improving blood vessel and heart health.These men were also about half as likely to have a blood clot in the brain, decreased blood flow to the heart, and heart failure—the reduced ability of the heart to pump blood. According to the Institute of Medicine, the average American diet contains barely over 50% of the conservative US recommended daily allowance (RDA) for magnesium. It is always preferable to eat our vitamins in their natural state – food. The impact of cooking and processing on magnesium can vary greatly from food to food. For instance, spinach should be eaten raw in order for the magnesium content to remain in tact.....
