Mahama promising to stop giving promises? – Akufo-Addo scoffs myjoyonline/politics/2014/December-10th/mahama-promising-to-stop-giving-promises-akufo-addo-scoffs.php 2016 flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo Addo has scoffed at President Mahama’s recent resolve to stop giving promises. The president has suffered major humiliation after all his promise to make the ongoing shedding exercise known in local parlance as ‘dumsor’, a thing of the past has failed. In spite of the promise by President Mahama, the energy crisis has grown from bad to worse. In an interview on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana programme, the president vowed not make anymore promises until the power crisis ends. Speaking at the second Alui Mahama Memorial lecture in Accra, Nana Akufo-Addo poked fun at the president’s promise. “Mahama promising to stop giving promises?” he asked sarcastically. The NPP leader noted that despite the resolve not to make anymore promises, President Mahama has not kept to his promise. On how an NPP government will tackle the energy crisis, Akufo-Addo said he will appoint competent people to manage affairs at ECG, VRA and GRICO. He maintained that solving once and for all the culture of load shedding is a major priority for NPP. “We cannot speak of industrialism when we cannot give hair dressers and barbers constant electricity” he stressed. The NPP leader noted that the current energy crisis can be fixed with a long term sustainable integrated energy supply. Nana Akufo-Addo is certain Ghanaians will pay realistic price for electricity if there is constant and reliable supply.
