Mahsi to everyone who shared and cared and helped with the search for Laura and Nicole! I believe in the power of prayer :) I hope and pray for many more happy endings surrounding our missing Indigenous women..... FYI: Sisters In Spirit was a Campaign initiated out of Amnesty Internationals Stolen Sisters Report. Sisters In Spirit was established through the Native Womens Association of Canada-NWAC. In 2010 the Conservative Government announced that it was going to remove the funding and re-allocate 500K to S.I.S and that NWAC could create awareness on the missing and murdered women but could no longer contribute to the larger database which was closed at over 600 cases. These cases were entered on a variety of realms including the nature of the crime-most were hate and very violent. Families of Sisters In Spirit carried the flame through hard work, volunteer efforts and love from women like Bridgette Tolly. $4M was reallocated to the RCMP to establish a general missing persons unit...which quite frankly should have already taken place. $10M was reallocated to be distributed to address and create awareness of risky, violent behavior on reserve-how much of that $10M has your reserve seen? What about creating awareness for people off-reserve or in unseeded territories? Why shut down something if its working?? The facts are that we have an alarming level of missing, murdered, trafficked and exploited Indigenous women intercontinentally and I hope that someday their families receive the good news they have been praying and waiting for. aho
