Maiduguri is the ancient capital of Borno state, the cosmopolitan and the commercial nerve centre of Nigerias North East region. It is also the administrative capital of famous Kanem Bornu Empire: the longest standing ruling dynasty in sub-Saharan Africa. Maiduguri, in the recent past, has been the hot bed of boko haram insurgency which led to the destruction of thousands of lives and properties worth billions of Naira. More recently, the Insurgency became intensified leading to incessant attacks on many local Governments in Borno thereby running over them while our security forces helplessly succumbing to the excessive fire power of the insurgents rendering all the Local Governments vulnerable. The exacerbation of the insurgency in recent time is wholly blamed on the lackadaisical attitude of the Government at the centre and lack of political will to equip and motivate our armed forces in the counter insurgency operations in Borno state, which led to the spill over to other North Eastern states of Adamawa, Yobe and Bauchi, thus taking National and international dimension. Many public commentators and political analysts blame the central Government for its insensitivity to the plight of thousands of the victims of insurgency and on poor representation at the centre, particularly by our elected representatives at both chambers of the Nigerian parliament. For Maiduguri, Borno, and North East as a whole to effectively overcome the present pitiable state of the region, it is sine-qua non to elect capable competent and qualified representative to represent us at the Hallowed Chambers of the Nigerian National assembly to effectively speak on our behalf and efficiently partner with the Government at the centre to bring speedy end to the existential threat posed by the insurgency which is no doubt poorly handled by the Government because of absence of proper legislative inputs from our representatives of the flash points of which Maiduguri is its birth place and hot bed. For us to get it right as a people, we must get it right in supporting and electing the right persons irrespective of their political affiliation with the requisite qualifications, exposure, composure and political stamina who also understands the complexity of the problem at hand i.e. the insurgency.
