Main letter in todays Herald... Having recently received the latest Government pamphlet highlighting the importance of the referendum next month I was reminded of the actual question which we are being asked: Should Scotland be and independent nation?. After months of near-hysterical debate led by politicians, the media, academics and an army of experts, all of whom have a disastrous record on forecasting anything beyond next week, it was with some relief to return to the single question which was so concise. We are not being asked if we should keep the pound, remain within Europe, leave NATO, destroy our NHS, nationalise Balmoral, give more powers to the Scottish Parliament or even maintain Alex Salmond as our leader. All of these are important issues which will require to be resolved over time but none is the reason that we are having the referendum. Archie H Stark, Glasgow It goes on, but I think this is so nicely put and we should constantly remind ourselves and others between now and September 18th and stop allowing Bitter Together to mire us in political debate which is designed to muddy the main issue.
