Maiya sure knows how to spend a day, working on coloring (and cleaning up after herself), playing during pt, and a GI appointment kept us super busy today! As Im sure most of you are interested in our GI follow up Ill start with that.. Overall everything looked good. Her liver function tests all looked normal, as did her CBC, even her white counts looked normal, which hopefully is an indication her ear infection is almost gone. One test, for Lactoferrin came back positive, indicating GI inflammation. Generally this is attributed to an infection (GI) or inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohns, IBS, or ulcerative colitis. We are conducting further testing to rule determine if infection is to blame, (though her white counts indicate infection is unlikely), as it is rare for children Maiyas age to have an IBD, at least according to GI. (though they did state its not impossible, and knowing Maiya more than likely this could be a very possible diagnosis) After discussing her labs and overall health, the GI doctor brought up Maiyas dysphagia, and most recent swallow study/ENT scope results. Feeding issues such as dysphagia, causes concern about her growth. Weighing in today at 16lbs 4 oz, Maiya has continued to lose weight, steadily over the last few weeks. For this reason out had been recommended that we conduct an Endoscopy of her throat. We are tentatively scheduling for May 1, as she will already be under sedation for her MRI.
