Majitar Rangpo slaughter house inspection today 04/11/2014 at 3am What unfolded before our eyes were very disturbing and unacceptable for the Religious centric state like sikkim.I was accompanied by :dr.Kamal Adhikarii (legal ). The rules n regulation governing the slaughter house ( the Prevention of cruelty to animals(slaughter house) rules 2010).are not followed at all.No animals are certified by vet doctors. Animals are slaughtered randomly and the bull or ox next in lines were shedding tears.very inhuman.it is against the PCA rules. The drainage system of blood excreta and end-product of animals are handled very unhygienically. All bloods excreta n animals end product( bull ox buf pigs )are drained into our holy river Teesta. This is having negative socio-religious impacts on all the communities. Hindu Believers take holy dip in the river Teesta during Chat-puja...some take holy bath during Magay-Sankarati and some offers water from this river to lord Shiva during the holy month of SAWAN.This negligence from the deptt and the govt has hurt the religious sentiment of Hindu community. For Muslim pig or swine are considered Haram.evn the pigs blood excreta and end product are discharged into river and the Muslim community too feeds on this river . People residing along the bank of river Teesta feeds on this river. This negligence is having negative medico-environmental impact too. This pollution is one the source of infection and infestation.sikkim as such has one of the highest TB n MDR-TB disease in the country and bovine-TB is one of the causative factors or the source.worm infestation too is very high in our state. We discussed this matter with secretary and he had accepted in principle that there are shortcoming from the deptt too n assured us of immediate action. I would like to call upon the officials from state pollution control board,forest and environment ,health,food deptt,animal husbandry and PHE to looking this issue urgently and address the same. I have written letter to SPCA(society of prevention for cruelty to animals)chairman too.
