Make the Masibonisane creche in Burnshill your Mandela Day - TopicsExpress

Make the Masibonisane creche in Burnshill your Mandela Day contribution Dear friends I write this email appeal on behalf of Ntinga Ntaba kaNdoda: a community-owned catalyst for community self-determination working in 13 villages in Keiskammahoek. I appeal to you to use the spirit of Mandela Day to support the Masibonisane Early Childhood Development Centre in Burnshill village. Mandela Day appeals on all of us to take action and inspire change. This is inspired by Nelson Mandelas way of life based on three personal principles: Free yourself. Free others. Serve everyday. Ms. Nomonde Ngalo has run the Burnshill creche since 1985. Since then, she has never been employed or paid a proper salary by government. From 2012, she began receiving R520 from the Community Works Programme. The creche has helped support parents with high quality Early Childhood Development (ECD) programmes. In Ms. Ngalo, the Burnshill community is lucky to have such a passionate mother committed to the growth & development of the community’s children. Despite all the odds, in the entire 28 years of running the creche Ms. Ngalo has never given up even for a single moment. She told an e.tv crew that interviewed her in April “It is important that children must go to school so that they have a better life & do not live a life of poverty. I asked myself I asked if I would stop what I love [taking care of the children] due to lack of funding. I decided to continue because I love the children”. The creche has 40 children below the age of 5 & runs from a derelict community-owned building. The collapsed fence, walls & roof are a danger to the children & teachers. These must be urgently fixed. The creche also needs electricity, kitchen equipment, learning toys & equipment. Make the Masibonisane creche your Mandela Day contribution. The creche needs a total of R100,000. You can make a cash donation or arrange the donation of building material/electrical equipment or arrange a team of volunteers to visit & help the community renovate the creche. We ask you to spread the message of Mandela Day by possibly hosting a small event for your friends where you appeal to them to join to us as volunteers and to also make a donation to our work. The event may be a dinner or a braai or another personal appeal. Ms. Ngalo is now part of the newly-formed Keiskammahoek South ECD Forum that brings together all the ECD practitioners in the area. The Forum aims to be the voice & shield of ECD practitioners. She is also part of the 2-year ECD course run by the Centre for Social Development at Rhodes University (run on behalf of Ntinga). This course has enrolled 20 ECD practitoners from Keiskammahoek South. It started in August 2013 & will run until August 2015.
