Make your opinion head on the new Realignment of the school. I think its a great plan except for one thing. Here is my thought: In the interest of the safety of children in K-5, Vandenboom should be reopened as an elementary school. Graveraet is a terrific school but is located in a place that requires students to pay attention to traffic at all times. Vandenboom was also originally acquired as an Elementary school, this means the facility is ready for elementary aged children. There is also a larger area for kids to use at recess and is located in an residential area with less traffic. Homeowners in the area would be able to look out for the kids making it easier to monitor for those who would not be wanted around the school. This location is not far from the high school and would not add a huge change to the bus routs. The school is also located close enough to major roads that it would be easily accessible to parents who wish to drop off and pick up their children from school. Marquette Township has also been working to improve the Lions field complex just down the street. This would be an added location for school activities for the students and provide added safety once the road is closed. This closure would increase safety as only those who need to pass the school would as the road past the front of the building would no longer be a convenient rout to travel for motorists.
