Making his debut in test cricket for Sri Lanka, Marvan scored a duck in his first inning as well as 2nd inning. They dropped him so he went back to the nets for more practice.More 1st class cricket. More runs.waiting for that elusive call. And 21 months later he got his 2nd chance. This time he tried harder. 1st Inn: 0 2nd Inng: 1. He was dropped again. Went back to the nets and scored tons of runs. Runs that seemed to be inadequate to erase the failure of Intl test cricket. 17 Months later opportunity knocked yet again.Marvan got to bat in both innings of the test. and Phew!! His scores, 1st Inng: 0 , 2 nd Inng: 0. Back to the grind. He lacked big match temperament. His level wasnt good enough at the highest level. Unduanted, Marvan kept trying. 3 years later he got another chance. This time he made runs. He came good.and an illustrious career thereafter he went on to score 6 double hundreds and become the captain of his country. All this despite taking over 6 years to score his 2nd run in Test cricket. An perfect example for the the famous saying, NEVER GIVE UP.. Happy Birthday Marvan!!
