Making of a Vidarbha State After independence, small empires - TopicsExpress

Making of a Vidarbha State After independence, small empires merged in big states and all development activities came under control of state .Generally, bigger states have so much potential for development but due to big geographical areas, it is impossible to develop all parts of the region. Parts far away from the state capital and district administrative head quarters remained backward or under developed .Due to lack of political will and vested interests of the politicians and administrative agencies development process is very slow in some part of the states. Some of the influential politicians to meet their vested interests always try to fetch maximum schemes and funds for their areas to secure their vote banks. This leads to imbalanced development and dissatisfaction among the people. To cite an example, Madhya Pradesh was rich with natural resources having so much potential for development. But because of its large area, some of its parts remained under developed. Baster region is as equal as Kerala state in size and is about 1000 KMs away from capital city Bhopal. Also whole Chhattisgarh region remained underdeveloped due to lack of political will for decades before getting the status of the state. Now, the rapid pace of development works taking place in Chattisgarh is for everyone to see. Other smaller states are also developing very fast. This is one of the striking example in history of India proving that small states develop faster than big states l Plight of Vidarbha :- Vidarbha region in Maharashtra state remained underdeveloped due to lack of political will and vested interests of our political leadership. All the time, people of Vidarbha have to depend upon the wishes of our leaders sitting in Mumbai. It is not that the region has no potential for development but due to lack of will it is not gaining momentum. Vidarbha has huge stock of natural and human resources required for a state. Also, the infrastructure required for state capital and its administrative functions is readily available in Vidarbha. Since it used to be the capital of Central Provinces . Thes Nagpur is well equipped for becoming the capital; Vidarbha region’s natural resources are diverted and utilized for the development of western part of Maharashtra leaving it an underdeveloped region . Potential in Vidarbha :- There are some states which are geographically smaller than Vidarbha and also having less natural resources but they are developing very fast due to proper governence. They are using their resources for the benefit of the masses. Employment opportunities are generated and people do not need to migrate to other parts of the country. Forest, Mineral and Water resources are utilized properly and exclusively for the benefit of the people and infrastructure development. Because of small size and will of the peoples representatives policy decisions are taken quickly and implemented effectively. Industries also get required support from the government. Demand of separate state of Vidarbha is pending since long. Local leaders are agitating for the status of state. Many times agitations, rallies, demonstrations, public meetings, referendum, fasts are conducted to press the demand of Vidarbha state. Also questions by our public representatives are raised in the assembly and parliament. Instead of all hue and cry the Maharashtra government has treated Vidarbha as a neglected child. Still the efforts are continued on all fronts and the Vidarbhians are hopeful that they will succeed in their efforts. Vidarbha region has all the resources required for development. Prospects After Creation of Vidarbha State :- Nagpur is the second capital of Maharashtra. After getting status of Vidarbha state Nagpur will be capital of Vidarbha. In Nagpur, all the infrastructure required for assembly sessions including Minister’s bungalows, Secretariat MLA rest house, Governor Bungalow etc. is available. In Nagpur Asia’s biggest Five Star Industrial area is situated at Butibori. Once Multimodal International Hub and Airport (MIHAN) is developed , which is a model project, many international companies are establishing their plants. Nagpur being in the centre of the country all metro and major cities are linked by railways and airways. Nagpur is now linked with other countries in the world. Forest, Wild Life and historical monuments are available to develop tourism. Vidarbha has been recognized as tiger capital. Infrastructure facilities to boost the Industrial development and generate employment opportunities are available. All these things support the demand of separate statehood for Vidarbha. So ,let us unite for the cause of Vidarbha State! @#@#@#@#@ (Contributed by--Prof. Shilpa Jibhenkar)
