Making your building windtight!! When your making your building windtight, all critical areas must be sealed carefully. The main areas include: - Overlaps between breathable membrane and facade membrane - Circular and angular penetrations (e.g. pipes, chimneys, joists and skylights) - Base joints - Transfer areas between covering membranes and underlay boards Windtightness is created by permanently sealing roof underlay membrane and facade membrane. If this is not achieved the building is open to the elements such as snow and rain and also insects and wood pests. The sd value of the roof underlay and facade membranes is lower than the vapour control layers meaning moisture doesnt collect underneath the membrane.
