Malawi Pride – Black Rhino Conservation In an admirable example of effective collaboration between concerned conservation bodies, between 9 and 20 June 2013 the Malawi Department of National Parks, Bentley Palmer and Wilderness Safaris will support efforts to see the last set of black rhino in Liwonde National Park collared in an effort to enhance their monitoring and security. With assistance from Pete Morkel, a renowned rhino vet and despite a heavy workload all over Africa he has always found time to come to Malawi at short notice to provide his invaluable expertise. Wilderness Safaris and Malawi take a lot of pride in the success of the rhino programme to-date, but great challenges still exist as rhino continue to be poached at an alarming rate in many countries. The survival of the Liwonde black rhino and others depends on the long term sustainability of this and similar programmes.
