Journalist Justice Mponda: Arrested AgainPresident Joyce Banda’s son Geoffrey Kachale, his aunt Cecilia Kumpukwe used their ‘powers’ to mastermind the arrest of Malawi Voice editor Justice Mponda, over article in which some Malawians were criticizing the two for insulting them. On Thursday, Malawi Voice published an article written by some Malawians who were expressing their anger on the remarks made by Kachale and Kumpukwe on facebook, in regard to their alleged connection to the Cash-gate scandal. Joyce Banda’s Son: Geoffrey KachaleAnd on Thursday night, Kachale through Peoples Party (PP) parliamentary aspirant for Zomba Central Joseph Chikwemba, and Kumpukwe through presidential press officer Tusekele Mwanyongo and renowned bootlicker Taonga Botolo started begging Mponda for the removal of the article pleading “it will damage the first family”. “My brother, please Geoff is on my neck as he is suspecting that I have had a hand in that article,” pleaded Chikwemba in an hour-long call to Justice on Friday morning. And after consulting with other top officials of Malawi Voice, the article was removed, with no price attached. And around 10 am on Friday, Chikwemba called again pushing for a meeting with Justice to discuss the website business, but added that the ‘first family’ had a token of appreciation for facilitating the removal of the “damaging” article. Joyce Banda’s Younger Sister Cecilia KumpukweHe alerted other Malawi Voice editors on his impending suspicious meeting with Chikwemba at 5pm, with strict advise “keep on trying my phones”. By 5:30pm all his two lines were out of reach, only to call on a private line “I have been thrown into Blantyre Police Cell on extortion charges”. This is the second time the 27 year old Malawi Polytechnic trained journalist to be thrown into custody by the PP government. His first arrest in October last year was masterminded by his long time family friend Reverend Malani Mtonga, in almost similar fashion.
