Malaysia is the best country in the world. You can eat many - TopicsExpress

Malaysia is the best country in the world. You can eat many delicious food, live peacefully and get an education. You should be grateful and proud that you were born in Malaysia instead of poverty- stricken countries like Bangladesh, Somalia, Palestine or Iraq. If youre not happy with the government, why dont you move out of malaysia? Ive heard the above statement countless times before and I think today is the right time for me to respond to this idiotic statement. First of all, Malaysia (and the Government) is not the best in the world. There are many better countries than Malaysia. If we make a comparison based on inflation index then certainly Malaysia is not the best - our inflation rate is 3.30. Inflation rate for countries like Portugal, France and Taiwan are much lower - -0.42, 0.50 and 1.64 respectively. Some government supporters will say, ...but inflation rate in Malaysia isnt as high as Venezuela (60.90) and Turkey (9.16) but hey, the cost of living in this country is rising steadily since the last three years but our salaries are not. Poor malaysians like me sometimes cry at night because we do not have money to buy food but you never stop saying malaysia is the best country in the world? Now lets compare our Gross Domestic Product (GDP) with Japan. Japan is a country that has no natural resources whatsoever and hills and mountains cover 70% of the land. However, Japans nominal GDP on 2012 was US$5.984 trillion (ranked 3rd behind China and United States). Malaysia, a country that is blessed with many natural resources such as gold, copper, iron ore, bauxite and petroleum on the other hand recorded a nominal GDP of only US $307.178 billion. Why? And why you think were the best country in the world when our 2012 nominal GDP was much lower than a country that literally has nothing? Second of all, hak mengkritik hak kami. Article 10 (1) (a) of the Federal Constitution is my licence to say whatever I want. Personally, I believe that criticising our own country and government is the responsibility of all malaysians. In the words of Bill Maher, I do think the patriotic thing to do is to critique my country. How else do you make a country better but by pointing out its flaws?. I believe some improvements need to be made. That is why continuous criticism is necessary. If youre not happy with me and any other malaysians exercising our constitutional rights then youre the one who need to move out of Malaysia. Finally, stop comparing our country with poor countries. Compare this country with developed and democratic countries like Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Korea and Germany. If you spend 10 minutes a day reading about their socioeconomics, politics, administration and rakyat youll realise how far we are left behind. And if you were given a chance to meet people from these developed countries, please, ask them their opinion about Malaysias democracy, freedoms and so much more. Malaysia is a beautiful and unique country. Lets us work together to make Malaysia a better nation. Fazrin Jamal
