Malaysiakini Former MIC strategic director S Vell Paari has reminded party president G Palanivel that the party is not the latters private property. This is in response to Palanivels assurances yesterday that he will not allow the party to be deregistered by the Registrar of Societies (ROS). From his statement its clear he is in pursuit of a legal confrontation. I put it to him that this is not just another civil suit, Vell Paari said in a statement today. He gave his assurance that he will not allow the party to be deregistered. Well he also gave assurances that the election was free and fair, was democratically conducted and there was no foul play. The ROS letter proved him wrong, Vell Paari, who was removed by Palanivel (right) as strategic director in a sudden reshuffle two days ago, added. The son of former MIC president S Samy Vellu also appeared to be sarcastic over his removal as strategic director, noting that his position has been null and void since the ROS letter was issued on Dec 5 asking for MIC to re-elect its central working committee and vice-presidents. I dont know which Vell Paari he had removed because my position had already been null and void, he said. Vell Paari urged Palanivel to give assurances that he would start fulfilling his own words. He pointed out that Palanivel did not fulfill his own promises made after the MIC general meeting on Dec 18, during which it was agreed that a committee would be formed specifically over the ROS issue. One can clearly see he never implemented or followed the decisions (which were announced by Palanivel himself), he said. Instead of calling upon ROS with the deputy president as per the general committee mandate, he decided to ignore the directive and to address ROS on his own, he added. He said that Palanivel did not obtain the mandate from the general committee before deciding on appointing his own lawyers to look into the ROS matter. If I am seeking legal opinion for my own consumption and opinion, I can appoint my own lawyers, but not to represent the party, Vell Paari asserted.
