Male vs Female Dog Traits/Facts *(These are just fun facts to know: They do not mean getting one gender over the other will assure you of the type of dog you will get, as like us, they are all individuals. These are just some interesting facts. For ex., not all male dogs will be aggressive, females may also be aggressive.....and you may not have a greater bond with a female dog, it may be with a male...etc). 1. Within the same household, it is better to have one dog of each gender versus 2 of the same gender. Dogs of the same gender tend to fight more...either male/male or female/female. 2. Evaluate the energy level your family can handle from a dog. Male dogs are often more active when it comes to jumping, running and chewing. The higher energy level of male dogs makes them better for endurance activities and competitions. But every dog, no matter gender, needs alot of daily excercise. Putting them in your backyard and expecting them to do laps for excercise is not practical...they want you. Several walks a day, and a good area for them to run. 3. Think about where you will keep your dog, ie, crate, secluded area, etc. Female dogs are easier to housebreak. They empty their bladder all at once and can hold their urine for a longer period than male dogs. Male dogs that have not been neutered are more likely to roam when left free, and try to escape when confined to a pen. NOTE: An unspayed female will need to be kept away from other dogs during her heat cycle. 4. Male dogs can tend to be more aggressive than female dogs, but only because they have a higher natural instinct to be territorial and protect their area. Females can also experience the same aggression, and 95% of aggressive dogs behaviors can be corrected and curbed, not cured. 5. Female dogs have a natural mothering instinct that makes them more watchful of children.....yet males have the same capacity for love of children. BUT, dogs of both genders may experience a change in behavior as your child grows, and will eventually need to be addressed. Female dogs are said to develop a greater bond with a human companion than male dogs, and female dogs tend to demand more affection from their owners. With all that being said, thoroughly do your homework. People will often withhold information from you in order to place a dog....so ask alot of questions about their background, at what age they got the dog at....was it nurtured by its mother properly...etc....and always do a meet and greet with other dogs outside on nuetral ground (neither one of the dogs homes). To give each and every dog alive a second chance at a new and happy life, is the main goal. https://facebook/DogTrainingbyRickRoman
