Mama Sherry here. We are being taken to task for reporting “incorrect information” regarding Moreauville, LA and the ordinance to kill Pit Bulls and Rottweilers. We are NOT spreading false information. We did our research and read all the articles posted by legitimate journalistic outlets, as well as the reversal published by The Times-Picayune in NOLA before posting. The order HAS been put on hold for further review (see copy below). The city has vowed the ordinance will not go in effect Dec. 1st, it will be given further review, and no dogs will be seized AT THIS TIME. Is it a victory? Yes. Are we as a community done? No. Not until its been completely repealed and no dogs are in danger of being killed. Does it mean monitor the situation? Yes. Be diligent. Make sure they follow through. This city has the national spotlight on them, so theyre going to be ultra cautious how they proceed. If it were me and my dogs were being threatened, Id have a contingency plan in place to protect my pets while I hired legal council and brought in help to fight the constitutionality of an ordinance without a grandfather clause for pre-existing conditions. There are many wonderful organizations experienced in fighting BSL and BDL such as Pinups for Pitbulls, Inc., Bad Rap, StubbyDog, and more. Heres the exact words of a city alderman: “Moreauville Alderman Penn Lemoine said the city board of aldermen, which is comprised of three aldermen and the mayor, will soon have a special meeting to address the ‘vicious dog’ ordinance following all of the backlash. Theyll likely overturn the ban and perhaps replace it with another measure, he said. The village has already abandoned the Dec. 1 deadline. No pets of any breed will be seized. Lemoine acknowledged the ordinance called for the animals to be euthanized. ‘It was a mistake,’ he said. ‘And its got to be redone and reworded.
