Mama Soul by the Soul Survivors was released in late 1968, but did not make the Billboard Hot 100 (it got to #115). This song and the LP it came from, Take Another Look, was the South NJ groups attempt to regain some of the traction it had acquired two years earlier with the Top 5 smash Expressway To Your Heart, released while they were under the Gamble-Huff umbrella. For this recording, the guys headed down to Muscle Shoals AL and recorded at Rick Halls FAME Studios. Unfortunately, neither the single nor the album caught on, and by the late 70s the band was history. youtube/watch?v=KuR0yvqxKLY
