Man assaults his wife with axe in Poonch Poonch: A man in this border district of Jammu and Kashmir allegedly assaulted his wife with an axe when she was sleeping, sources said on Monday. Sources said Gulzar Ahmad of Chhuggah village in Mendhar area assaulted with an axe his wife, Tazeem Akhtar when she was sleeping. “Due to assault, she lost her ear and her left hand got fractured,” sources said, adding she raised the alarm along with her two children who were there. “After raising alarm, her father and neighbours rushed to the spot and the assailant was thrashed,” sources said. The victim was immediately rushed to sub-district hospital Mendhar. The accused, however, managed to flee. Gulzar is a government teacher in a Primary School and is still absconding. Sources said the police have registered a case under FIR number under 87/ 2014 under section 307/34 in police station Mendhar and searches for the assailant are on. (M S Nazki / GNS)
