Man cant do great things for God (for apart from Me you can do NOTHING). Only God is great. He will work through us to the exact amount we are surrendered to Him. And one of the things we must surrender is aspiring to greatness. To God alone be the glory. We must decrease that He might increase. We are in no position to discern importance anyway: EVERYTHING we do by the leading and Spirit of God is important, and anything we do apart from Him literally amounts to nothing in eternity. We make no promises to God; we cant keep them (Peter vowing to never desert The Lord). We appropriate His promises towards us. Human greatness is a deception. The greatest thing we can do is take up our own cross and lay down our lives, daily; be willing to be nothing that He might bring glory to His own name through us (Jesus washed the disciples feet) as a surrendered people. Jesus came into His glory through the cross, and He showed us the way. If God Himself made Himself of no esteem, why do even us Christians seek the esteem of man, knowing full well what the pattern is? The answer is simple: sin nature. We wish to be as God. We seek the praise, honor and glory that belongs to only One. Its an evil thing so to do. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. Lord, help me to lay down all aspirations to greatness, that You may be shown great through me. Let my life be a testimony to who You are, and not who I am; to Your goodness, not mine. Amen.
