Manager - Occupational Health & Safety . Title: Manager – Occupational Health & Safety Site: Porgera Reports to: Executive General Manager PNG Department: Management Headquartered in Toronto, Barrick has over 20 mining operations with many advanced exploration projects located across 5 continents and a large number of tenements located on some of the most prolific and prospective mineral trends. In the Australia Pacific region, Barrick has 2 operating mines and a regional head office located in Perth, Western Australia. Papua New Guinea Barrick (Papua New Guinea) Limited, the operator of the Porgera Mine, is part of the Barrick Gold Corporation group of companies which has interests in mines in Australia, the Porgera mine in Papua New Guinea and exploration interests throughout the region. Position Objective We seek to appoint a Manager – Occupational Health and Safety to manage a number of initiatives including design and management of occupational health and safety systems for the Porgera Operations to enable the business to meet its long and short term business objectives. Key duties and responsibilities: • Develop systems for the efficient management of; health promotion, hazard identification and incident prevention, Safety Training, Incident Response and Investigation, Medical treatment, Emergency Response Planning including training and response. • Assist the Executive General Manager PNG in developing the overall business strategy, particularly in relation to health and safety issues. • Cascade the Barrick Corporate safety management requirements to site leadership and develop and manage local implementation plans To be suitable for this role, you will possess the following: • Possess tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety Management or related discipline with several years’ management and leadership roles; • Experience in Site safety management and improvement plan development, implementation and measurement; • Knowledge in the development and implementation of safety programs and recognised safety management systems; • Emergency response and medical coordination; • Experience managing a technical and culturally diverse teams; • Experience in managing costs and budgeting; • Knowledge and experience in a mining operation in a developing country, demonstrating commitment to localisation plans and sensitivity to local customers; • The ability to coach, mentor and train supervisors across multiple disciplines to a high standard, • The ability and willingness to train and develop national employees, • Current Drivers Licence. Your primary point of hire will be Cairns, Australia and your primary location will be the Barrick Porgera mine site. An on-travel allowance will be provided to candidates who reside outside of Cairns. The roster for this role is a fly in, fly out rotation being 16 days on, 12 days off (or a variation dependent upon workload requirements). This position offers a competitive salary package in line with qualifications and experience.
