A postgraduate degree in Engineering or Business Administration would be an asset At least 5 years experience at superintendent level in a maintenance environment within the mining industry. Fixed plant and mobile maintenance backgrounds would be advantageous. Government Certificate of Competency, Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical) for Mines is a legal requirement for the role. Job Specification: The position is responsible for all the maintenance functions relating to the underground crushing, milling, flotation of copper, and magnetite recovery from ore delivered from the existing block cave operation and the reprocessing of stockpiled material. This includes all fixed plant installations and mobile equipment. Specific responsibilities will include: Managing the total maintenance function for the Department to achieve required plant and fleet availability and reliability to enable operations to achieve production targets safely and efficiently. The role also carries legal responsibility in terms of the South African Mine Health and Safety Act. Development and implementation of the 5-year business plan for the maintenance department with the objective of maximizing shareholder value. Management of the maintenance functions to ensure customer satisfaction, competitiveness, the reduction of maintenance costs, innovative technology development or testing. Contributing to the achievement of the financial and operational goals and objectives through analysis of plant and equipment performance to identify critical issues and ensuring that mine maintenance performance adds value to operational goals and objectives. Setting up strategic vehicle and plant replacement programmes to ensure both continue to operate at or above designed levels of productivity. All necessary administration to apply for and manage capital spends to achieve the strategic objective set out. Do post audit where necessary of capital spend to ensure value has been realized. Ensuring continuous improvement initiatives are driven throughout the department to ensure cost reduction, margin improvement, productivity or efficiency improvements and improved safety standards. Ensuring that the department develops an interdependent culture of safety ensuring that work complies with existing safety legislation and is in full compliance with the Company’s standards. Generating maintenance best practice systems and processes in order to create an efficient and effective Maintenance Department. Ensuring that the Concentrator and Magnetite plants maintenance standards are tracked against global benchmark performance of similar operations and to make sure that emerging gaps are bridged in order to remain competitive in the long term. Creating a clear and robust development and succession planning process that inspires and builds top talent within the business. Intrinsic Qualities Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage and function effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a multicultural environment. Proficiency in maintenance and strategic planning, organization development and leadership. Demonstrating cultural awareness and sensitivity in dealings with external stakeholders. Taking responsibility and accountability for own behaviour, performance and development. Sound ability to perform under pressure.
