Manchester United spent all transfer window hunting for a creative midfielder, and ended up signing Marouane Fellaini. Among the factors that contributed to their demoralising loss against great rivals Liverpool last weekend, was a dearth of ideas in midfield. Red Devils fans were left shaking their heads in frustration as Tom Cleverley, Michael Carrick and doddering Ryan Giggs toiled against Steven Gerrard, Lucas Leiva, Jordan Henderson and Coutinho, while Robin van Persie waited in vain for a killer pass. It was all the more infuriating to United fans that Japanese international playmaker, Shinji Kagawa, did not even make the match-day squad. Kagawa was Borussia Dortmund’s best player in their Bundesliga winning team when he joined United at the beginning of last season. His vision and silky skills were the key to many victories for Jurgen Klopp’s side, and the Dortmund manager was sad to see the Samurai Blue star go. Klopp was dismayed when Kagawa failed to make the starting line-up on a regular basis during his first season at Old Trafford. And even though the little midfielder won the Premier League title, he knew he had room to improve. United fans are now of the universal belief that Kagawa has probably acclimatised, and is ready to provide the midfield spark that United crave. And they are beginning to point to David Moyes’ failure to field the player as the worst of his early indiscretions in the Old Trafford hot-seat -fefe
